Estee Lauder Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang

I should start this review by fessing up to the fact that I did not like Lauder's Sensuous. It did not provoke gushing or mad love on my end. Many of my perfumista friends fell in love with it's charms, but I just never jumped on the Sensuous band wagon.

Amber Ylang Ylang delivers on the dark moody promise of Sensuous. This is a great thick amber with a bright bergamot opening note. The star of the scent is the ylang note and it is glorious. It is a cross between jasmine and rubber. It is warm and velvety. Like a thick blanket of scent.

The rest of the scent composition is a beautiful Bulgarian rose absolute note with a toasty cinnamon, honey and vanilla dry down.
The dry down alone makes you wish you can drink this in a hot toddy form. It deserves to be mug and in front of a fire place on a wintery Ohio day.
I swear amber based fragrances excel in cold weather. They just swell and make you swoon.

This is currently at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and esteelauder.com.
The parfum spray is $300, EDP 2.5 is $120 and EDP 1 oz is $65.
I have smelled only the EDP and can not even imagine how stunning the parfum could be. Let us know if you get a sniff!

I don't know why but I just can't get excited about anything that I see from Estee Lauder. For some reason I equate Estee Lauder with being old, grandmothers, etc. I don't know why. Does anyone else have the same feeling?? I just don't get that young and sexy feeling from EL.

Blogdorf: Thanks for the post on this! I was wondering what you and fragrance bloggers would say. I can't wait to smell it!

Katee: Their compacts are a chic classic that never go out of style -- but I know what you mean about 'ol Mama Lauder. Part of the reason I support them (for some of their products) is b/c Estee was the original and we owe so much about the beauty biz to her. Blogdorf's praise for EL actually sent me back to their counters -- their makeup is, generally, not as long-lasting on my skin as other brands (mac, la mer, chanel) but I like many of their skin care lines (idealist, overnight serum) and I'm a huge fan of their powder compacts.

I adore the first Private Collection fraqrance, the one with gardenia, but the new one leaves me running for cover. I hate amber, so it wasn't meant for me. You mentioned Sensuous - I hate that too. I got a very nice deluxe sample and gave it away to a "kid" at work. The smell is obnoxious, not sexy.

Katee, don't know how old you are, but Estee Lauder has some nice scents for every age group...you just have to try them all. Granted, it's department store perfume, and most of us love our boutique fragrances, but there are a few Lauder winners among their many scents.
