She Will Always Be Darla To Me...

Inspiration from MA Kelsey Deenihan :
“The Golden Globes is clearly one special occasion and Dexter's leading lady, Julie Benz, couldn't risk having anything but a prefect glowing complexion on that red carpet. When deciding what look Julie was going to be wearing at the Globes this year, her fashion stylist, Joey Tierney, and I talked about a pretty, muted, monochromatic look. Julie's dress is champagne color and we wanted to keep the makeup pretty subtle with some highlights to just bring out a little sparkle.”

How To:

PREPARE: To begin, I applied intense moisturizing concentrate on Julie's skin to give a bit of extra hydration before applying her makeup. The added bit of moisture allows her skin to stay radiant and carry the makeup throughout the night without getting dry or feeling heavy. Next, I brushed on a small dab of the depsea hydrability moisturizing lip balm to soften her lips. There’s nothing worse than dry cracked lips under a natural lipstick when it’s easily avoidable.

FOUNDATION: Julie likes to have a full coverage foundation, especially on big event days. The Shu Uemura Face Architect remodeling cream foundation is perfect for her skin. Face Architect gives buildable coverage without looking too heavy allowing the skin to keep a natural radiance while looking flawless. To set the foundation I took a large powder brush and lightly brushed on Shu Uemura loose powder in 5YR medium light. With a little power behind the brush and circular motions on the skin I buffed the powder into the foundation setting it and allowing Julie's flawless canvas to be ready for color!

EYES: Julie's inner eye and eyelids are highlighted with Shu Uemura eye shadow in white 906. This shimmery white shadow picks up light and brightens her eyes. Above the shimmer is a natural matte color (Shu Uemura beige 835) that I brushed into her crease to give a hint of definition to the lids.

BLUSH: After the eyes I began to start sculpting the face by contouring Julie’s cheeks and temples. I used Shu Uemura Amber 82 blush as a natural contour. I applied the peachy rose blush just under the cheek bone to give added definition to Julie's facial structure. I then took my blush brush and lightly dusted Shu Uemura Peach 43 blush over the apples of her cheeks to softly blend the contour and add a bit of healthy color.

LIPS: The natural lip is Shu Uemura lipstick in BG 907 and lipgloss OR 580N over it.

All the products can be purchased at your local Shu counter or online at http://www.shuuemura-usa.com/_us/_en/skincare/product-family/depsea-hydrability.aspx

It's Showtime, not HBO my dear =D And that's a huge spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen this season of Dexter! I'm still in shock over it myself.

but yes, she will always be Darla to me too =) and she is just fabulous looking!

She did get killed off on *Showsotime*'s hit, Dexter.

She does look lovely here, though. She's so amazinig.

Remaining: Edited it!

Alyssa: She "did" look thinner than I remembered.

Joey: Should I remove it?
I read it in EW. Never watched an episode actually. Heard great things though.
I though she looked lovely. I really want to check out the foundation.

Darling buffy will always remain close to my heart as well! Love your blog I read it daily!

I absolutely love your blog, but surely you don't think we believe the product break downs by brand sponsored makeup-artists? I work in the business and have yet to meet an MA that only uses one brand.

Oh how I love Buffy. Angel never moved me, though... my heart belongs to Spike.

Alyssa: I agree.

Annie: PLEASE don't post the surprise ending to the season finale in your blog posts!

I have edited this post.

So glad I read this after you edited the post! I have so far managed to remain unspoiled. I don't know how I feel about this look though. That myspace pic makes her look really old. I need to find some more red carpet photos.

I'm having a problem with this one. Clearly the flash from the camera is bouncing off her light-reflecting makeup or sun screen, yet we're being called to take note of the products she's wearing. We can't see them! And there's no acknowledgment that there might be an issue. I going to trust that the MUA used the products listed, but better PR would mean sending a better picture.

And what's with all the MUAs not finally figuring that it's not the best idea to use light-reflecting products when people are going to be photographed?

Anon: This is not a PR or press picture. It is from her personal twitter account. It was snapped as she was going to awards. I chose it because was cute and her skin looked flawless. This was my call not the PR of the cosmetic company.

I mentioned this originally but I had to edit the post because I slipped up on a season spoiler. I assumed everyone knew since it is all over the internet and MUA boards. Dexter fans are hardcore. I got some scary emails these last few hours. I am half tempted to delete the post...but she really did look lovely.

Ari: Me too! Team Spike all the way!

I agree, she is very lovely!

Why do faces appear whiter than the body in photographs?

Annie, you NEED to watch Dexter. I am tempted to mail you my DVDs! It's an incredible show.

Also, I've tried this foundation and the coverage is superb. Too bad I didn't find a great color match (but I rarely ever do!). I think you'd have an easier time finding a match. It's much better than the Nobara stick.

I'm sorry you're getting such terrible emails about the original post! I hope I didn't come off as rude =(

I adored her in Buffy and Angel (thank you TNT & LOGO For airing them to this day!) - didn't really jump on the Dexter train. I do agree with Alyssa - she looks extremely tiny, moreso than ever.

The skin is flawless

Ahhh, Spike.

I've seen a few breakdowns using Shu products only, so I'd assume that the Shu team got the GG gig - that would mean that they would only use Shu products, and Shu is one of the few brands that I could see myself doing a whole face without having to sneak in someone else's base/mascara etc. I love that someone other than MAC got the job for a change!

I think she looks gorgeous, beautiful skin.

Oh my god, he was perfection. I actually think that Chuck Bass is the new Spike. Same bad-boy swagger, same perfect bone structure. Which would make Nate Angel, maybe? I'm not sure how well this metaphor holds up, lol

I love all the Team Spikers!

Jbunny: I keep forgetting that many people just wait for the DVD's and do not watch during the season.
The mail was nothing in comparison to what I have received in the past. There was this one primer review....

I need to revisit my Shu counter. I have never paid attention to their foundations. I also need to go to NARS! That duo used for Christina!!!!!!! I might have to cave!!!!!!!

Ari: I agree!!!!
I miss GG. When does it come back?

Grace: I have more press releases to publich. I should have worked on the blog last night....but I fell asleep instead. LOL

Annie: Not until March!!! And they left us with such a huge cliffhanger too, with the whole Chuck's mom thing. I'm dying to know whether it's really her. I guess it is a possibility, since they made a point of having Blair mention that Chuck's father never told him where his mother's grave was. I am also very, very happy that the whole thing is over and done with (my anguish with that storyline is what inspired my blog's name, lol) and can't wait to see Nate and Serena together =)

she's so pretty and soft on dexter, but that pic makes her look like her head's been glued to someone else's scrawny body. scary. hope she's not starving herself into some stupid hollywood image of thin.
