Shopping Report from August 6th 2006:
Cavewoman and I started the day at our traditional first stop. The TJ Maxx in Beachwood Ohio. This is where we spotted Chanel dresses and Versace gowns.
The pickings were slim but we did managed to snatch up Joy body creams(great quality), a lovely fig soap, urban decay compacts and shadows, Escada Collection body lotion, a Too Faced gloss in Blabber Mouth and Anna Sui Dolly Girl body lotion. I spotted Joy and Shalimar EDT bottles.
We then headed to Beachwood to meet up with the rest of the gang at the Nars counter. One of our favorite SA's showed us the new scent by Lanvin called Rumeur. The notes are magnolia, jasmine, rose, musk and patchouli.
It was quite fetching.
Cavewoman fell hard for the new Guerlain. Insolence is a great violet based fragrance. The other notes include red berries and rays of iris.
Is it worthy to be sitting next to my Mitsouko bottle?
No.
But then...no one is really worthy of that honor.
This is a very good fragrance and worth seeking out. Do not judge it by the Hillary Swank ad or the high raves of the classics.
It is worthy of a sniff.
The third fragrance was from La Prairie called Midnight Rain. This one was quite good. It is a sweet floral oriental. It was very similar to Angel but darker. Tussah thought it was similar to Flowerbomb because of the vanilla note. Chances are this will be massive. It is not available yet. Call your local Saks for details.
At Norstorms we sniffed the new Donna Karan Gold. It smells like bananas.
No.
It really does.
Vera Wang Princess was a surprise. There were no notes available but it a pleasant floral musk fragrance. Ceil stated "If you wanted a scent gift for someone who does not wear perfume, this would be a safe choice." I imagine it could be as popular as Lovely.
Koneko is weighing a future purchase.
But the best fragrance find of the day was Kenzo Amour. It was love at first sniff for me. The notes are Frangipani, cherry tree, thanaka wood and rice steam. Think POTL mixed in with the comforting smell of rice. I wanted to make a run for the doors with the bottle under my arm.
It will be available soon at Nordstorm.
There are waiting lists at the Cleveland store.
At Nordstorm we played at several counters.
Here are the things that made us swoon and do jigs:
Too Faced:
Kitty Glitter in Pussy Galore. It is a pretty pink glitter. It rivals the Tony +Tina glitter. This is high praise coming from a huge Tony+Tina fan.
Afterglow Icecubes were the find of the day. They are eyeshadows/body powders that have the most amazing shimmer. I want to go out on a limb and say that Love was the best shade. It was a gold with a greenish cast. Lust was a silvery white and Betrayal was a pink.
Diamond Gloss in White. It might rival Diorkiss. The shimmer is impressive.
Other worthy colors: lilac, candy and pink.
Chanel:
We went nuts over the Ombre Essentielle Shadows. This line has the best silver shadow in cosmetics. It is called Silvery 61.
This is essential. Everyone needs to have this for their smoky eye.
45 Safari is similar to Diamond Lil but better. It is richer and deeper.
Bambou was Tussah's favorite. It is a green with a gold cast.
Cavewoman and Koneko discovered great liquid liners at Lancome called Artliners. The color that took all breath away was Indigo Sparkle. It was such a lovely midnight blue with shimmer. It performed very well on cavewoman's eyes. It lasted all day through hardcore shopping and Ohio heat.
Tomorrow I will discuss how Koneko found the perfect hat and I stumbled across something that I never expected.
The famous "saying" is true.
When you stop looking...that is when true love comes.
I leave you with pictures of our bubble teas from Mint Cafe in Cleveland Heights.
Mine was the green tea.
It was delicious.

MMM! I could go for the refreshing bubble tea right now! Mine was the lavender one.
It was a superb day for hunting and gathering and testing and sniffing and eating.
My wonderful purchase of the day has to be the LaPrairie concealer. Thanks to our knowledgeable and helpful SA, he found the perfect concealer for a *ahem* mature woman like me! It is moisturizing and it does not dry out at all! Lasts all day, great colors, and you get a refill too, so it's even less expensive than YSL touch eclat!
I cannot wait for The Reveal! Everyone will see your dream come true!!!
Yes!!! Artliners! The Blueberry that I fell so hard for is an Artliner. I love the one that's new for fall, too, although I can't remember the name. It is part of the Luna Chic collection.
I can't wait to sniff Kenzo Amour. All the Kenzos (with the exception of Flower Oriental) wear so well on me.
This sounds like a great shopping excursion! The TJ Maxxes over in NY don't have as many great things...but Century does. Can't wait!
You stumbled across something that you never expected? Now I'm totally hooked. Can't wait to hear about it! (This is like saying, I've got a secret but I can't tell you now.) I'm frustrated/anxious to know. Can't wait to see what your true love looks like!
Perhaps you might invite Miss Manners on one of these legendary shopping trips? She is very well-behaved and is adept at shutting down the most obnoxious sales associates with just one withering glance. She has very long arms, as well, and is willing to carry many shopping bags for her companions.
I'm so in trouble now. Must check the Chanel shadows! And I love Artliners. I need one in every color. The one Kristen is talking about is Starshower. It looks perfect.
End on a cliffhanger, why don't you? I knew Patti would love Insolence. And Chanel e/s--only fear of bankruptcy prevents me from buying every single one. They are the only high-end eyeshadow that have ever lured me away from my cash.
Kenzo Amour: I have a feeling I'm going to like this one A LOT.
My favorite part (aside from the excitement of knowing A has found something she never thought she'd find) are the nice remarks about the SAs. Truly that must be a thankless job (I've never been one, but it sure looks it) ... and it's wonderful when one is good at a thankless job and gets acknowledged (and even thanked) ... you are such professional shoppers! xoxo
Yummm! I want more bubble tea too! (Mine was the orange one- thai iced tea flavor.)
It was truly a most delightful day. I enjoyed every moment of it, and cannot believe how fast the afternoon/evenings just zoom away!
I am defn. going to purchase the Too Faced Afterglow Ice cube in love and Kitty glitter. The Vera Wang Princess is really lovely... I think it's also a must have, just for the bottle (I'm glad I like the scent too!) And I am lemming everything else, LOL!
The rice steam note in the Kenzo Amour... it's also to be found in the KenzoKi skincare line. (Sensuel, I think.) I liked the items I've used in the line a lot! Some Sephoras carry it.
And Annie's grand revelation is truly... astounding! Sigh...
OK. You did NOT find Chanel & Versace gowns at TJ Maxx.
