Pictures of my new compact.
There are no markings on the case but there is a Max Factor puff inside. The powder is in pristine condition.
Too good if you ask me.
I am thinking this is not a Max Factor vintage compact but something that was made by a crafty person. They scooped out the insides of a pocket watch and installed a powder disc & mirror.
Has anyone every seen these at antique stores or shows?

That compact is beautiful! Is it the size of a pocket watch?

Today I'm wearing Lancome Rose Nu with clear gloss on top.

It's beautiful! (It's different fron my montre à poudre, which is just made to 'look' like a watch.)

That is stunning. I'd still love to talk to you and Cavewoman about your compacts. Send me an email or something. ;)

Doris Day was beautiful, plus one knockout figure. Thanks for keeping her name alive.
Watch one of her movies sometime, she is a riot!
My lippie is Burts Bees. I know, a little uninspired...

Hi. If you google "Max Factor watch powder compact," you will see that Ruby Lane Antiques has one almost exactly like it - so do some ebay sellers - so I don't think you have a fake. It's just in good shape. The Ruby Lane watch has a powder puff just like yours, and a sticky label on the back - yours must've come off. Nice find! - minette

I had a vintage compact shaped like a pocket watch -- quite authentic, but not nearly as nice as yours (and long gone, lost in one of my many moves). I am guessing there was an odd little vogue for them at some point. Another vote for "real deal." :D

I'm not sure if it's a fake or real, though if minette spotted the like on Ruby Lane the odds are it's authentic.

However, it's not uncommon to see "converted" compacts like this. Especially for things like solid perfumes - recycling may be a kind of trend now, but folks have always been doing it. I've older books on home remedies and home made cosmetics that suggest using old pocket watches as compacts, so perhaps what happened is Max Factor took a cue from those home crafters way back when...

Hi!
just doing a search on the internet for vintage Max Factor items. (I'm looking for Max Factor perfume compacts, though!) Anyway, I saw a Max Factor compact with scalloped edging like yours on this website:

Although the bird image may not be the same.

I realize this post is very old, but I came across it during a search. My mother lost a compact identical to yours that her mother gave her. I am trying to find another one to buy her. Could you tell me where you found it? Thanks for your help.
