Coco Mademoiselle Commercial
Chanel Tour Part 2
There were many moments that impressed me during this trip. The one that stands out is the incredible dedication of the Chanel staff to preserving the vision of Mademoiselle Chanel.
Every detail from the choice of perfume bottles to the commercials have been inspired by the loves and tastes of Chanel. She passed 30 years ago but she is still directing the path of her beloved company.
Every director, photographer, set designer and muse are brought to the apartments for inspiration. Jean-Paul Goude was inspired by a tiny gilded birdcage on an end table. He used this piece to inspire his famous Coco commercial with Vanessa Paradis swinging in a life sized birdcage.
The latest director to collaborate with Chanel is Joe Wright. Mr Wright directed Pride and Prejudice. This film captured the attention of Chanel's artistic director, Jacques Helleu.
Mr Helleu quickly fell in love with the look of this movie that he immediately hired the director, the actress, the cinematographer and the crew responsible for the set design.
This team was also inspired by the apartments of Mademoiselle Chanel. Throughout the 60 second commercial you will spot glimpses of coramandel walls, chandeliers, jewelry, crystals, camellias, mirrors and the Place Vendome.
The short film was shot over 5 days in the Bry-Sur-Marne studios. Keira Knightley portrays a modern day version of Coco Chanel. The commercial opens with Keira skipping down the fire escape stairs wearing just a men's shirt with a bowler hat. The background view was actually inspired by the breathtaking views from the rooftop over the Chanel workrooms.

I believe some of the commercials (as well as a number of related "the making of" videos are on Chanel.com under the beaute and frangrance section. They are indeed beautiful to watch--there is also an interactive media presentation of Coco's apartments where special items (the chandalier, for ex) are highlighted.
on 9/10, as a v.i.p. chanel customer, i received an email with a password granting me access to the site to view the new $10+ million worldwide budgeted 60 sec. coco mademoiselle spot featuring keira knightley and take the virtual tour of the paris apartment.
i unfortunately viewed the site on 9/11.
and i could not help but think to myself, my god...
our country is at war.
people are dying needlessly.
our economy is uncertain.
american families are losing their homes.
jobs are being lost.
men, women and children do not have health insurance.
our education system is failing our children.
our tax system is ludicrous.
the global environment is in immediate danger.
so much of our government, along with corporate america, is fraudulent and cannot be trusted...
and then there is coco mademoiselle and her apartment.
ridiculous...
obscenely ridiculous, but most of all sad...
to quote maureen chiquet, global chief executive at chanel, "we don't want it to be a hard sell. we want it to be an intrigue."
well, ms. chiquet, it is most definitely an intrigue.
an intrigue to fathom that chanel would spend such an obscene amount of time and money to promote a ridiculous fantasy to sell a fragrance to young women.
please, we are smarter than this.
better chanel should spend it's time, money and effort to make our / the world a better place.
shame on chanel.
i am embarrassed for you.
enough said.
Anonymous #2 - It's hard to believe someone has conviction in their own statements when they post their gripes anonymously.
Annieytown - Been loving your Chanel and Paris posts!
I love all the photos!
And, more importantly, I read on Fasion Verbatim that you have "dark, richly-coloured cascading waves the only convincing Veronica Lake interpretation seen in years." Please tell me this is not a gift from nature and that you will share your secrets for getting the soft perfect waves I'm coveting for Autumn. I'm sure there are tips galore online, but I trust hints from bloggers more than more formal articles.
Chanel must have been so teeny tiny to have that chair envelope her the way it does in that classic profile photo of her.
And I agree with g.g. about the anonymous post.
Annie, these photos are so beautiful! I can't wait to see more!
Anonymous, it is unattractive of you to use Annie's blog, and this thread of her reporting her once-in-a-lifetime dream come true trip to Paris, to post your opinions on the world situation. No one asked you to wait until 9-11 to open your "VIP" Chanel email.
Make your own political blog if you have to, but stop using blogdorf for your own personal forum. It is mean and rude. And cowardly of you not to post your name.
Annie, feel free to remove my post here if you want.
To Raven: That's a perfect description of Annie's beautiful hair!

Anon2: Oh dear.
Lets tackle this with bullet points...
*You made the decision to open the email on 9-11. Chanel did not mail these out on the 11th.
As a "VIP" customer, you must have been aware that you were opening something that was going to be over the top in both beauty and budget.
*Chanel is no way responsible for the mess here in the US. It is funny that I have to actually write this. I also have to state another obvious fact...Chanel is a french company. It is not based in the US. It is a company and not able to make laws, get soldiers out of Iraq and create a health insurance plan that would pass in the house and the senate.
That said...if anyone could fix our country...it would be Chanel. That company is run flawlessly with incredible attention to every small detail.
I would vote for Jacques Helleu for President.
I believe he could get us "back up and running" in a few short months.
Plus...the White House would smell heavenly.
I never discuss politics on this blog because of three reasons.
1. This is a blog about beauty.
2. I work for a politician...so I deal with politics for 8-10 hours a day. My blog is where I go to get away from my job. I hope this blog provides a "sanctuary" for other people with high stress jobs and lives. I want it to be free of drama, relaxing and filled with pretty things and helpful reviews.
When I want to get on a soapbox about the state of the world...I vent to friends, family and appropriate web sites and blogs.
3. I think it is safe to say that beauty addicts are both democrat and republican. I want everyone to leave politics at the door here...and just come here to read and give opinions on beauty products and fashion.
*You will have to continue to be ashamed of me...because there are more Chanel related posts to come. I have not even swooned over Christopher Sheldrake yet.
There are some great beauty blogs in my link list.
I advise you to go and visit them.
There is nothing for you...here.
*I hope you put your $$$ where your mouth is. I hope you vote responsibly and are involved in the campaigning process. If you are not involved in the campaigns...then I suggest it is time for you to act. Campaigning is hard work but can be rewarding.
Even if the election does not go well for us(I am going to assume that you are a democrat)...at least we tried.
I have been very kind to you in this reply.
You actually did not deserve it...
but you might be a democrat...so I am going to let it slide.
I am going to apologize to Chanel...for you.
Dear Chanel,
I am sorry that I got you confused with the US government.
I plan to get out and vote in my upcoming election.
Hope your launch is a success and I can not wait to get my hands on your spring "top secret" nail polish. It is going to rock!!!
Enough said!
Love and Kisses---

Hi Annie,
Have only just now been able to catch up w/ the blog and have been loving your posts... the photos are lovely and your descriptions are lovelier. I am so happy this dream came true for you.
As for the derailment observed in the anonymous comment, huh. I won't comment. You know I try to keep business and pleasure separate ;-)
If we dont put some beauty in the world, what make it a better place? What will be our inspiration? And this isn't a political blog.
