Prescriptives Custom Blend Foundation
Several weeks ago I was in NYC with Erika from Makeup Bag and Michelle from All Lacquered Up. We paid a visit to the local Prescriptives counter at Bergdorf Goodman. We were there to check out the custom blended tinted moisturizers. The SA's created beauty concoctions that managed to transform the skin into pieces of art. In all seriousness, the blends made the skin look immaculate. Think Nicole Kidman before the botox. I was watching with true envy.
I am a girl that needs extra coverage. Jason Garland,my SA insisted that I am twisted and see imagined flaws but I can not be budged when it comes to foundation.
He insisted that I sit down to have my foundation custom blended.
I reluctantly agreed.
He examined my face kindly and then started to whip up a recipe. It was hard to keep track with what he put in my blend. I saw moisturizers, luminizers and treatments being thrown in along with something the looked like a thick pea soup.
Along the way he stirred the potion and would give it a good "martini worthy" shake. At the end it was an exact match to my skin color. A strange mixture of pale pink with flashes of yellow. On the skin it toned down the redness, counter balanced the yellow tones and covered everything it needed to. It did not settle into any pores or lines. It survived the day with no mishaps.
It did not morph into any orange shade, it did not fade or disappear, and it did not move or slide.
It performed all these feats without a primer.
The price might make most beauty lovers pause. It is $62.
As a La Mer foundation junkie...I considered this a bargain.
I wish I could get a perfect match at my local drugstore.
But no brand has managed to match my skin tone and stay on my face for more than 4 hours.
In the end it pays to spend more on my foundation.
My vanity is not cluttered with foundations that do not work for me.
Instead there is room for perfumes and countless lip glosses.

Annie! I am so glad you were able to experience the fabulousness that is Prescriptives Custom Blend! My experience was at Dillards in Beachwood. Holly was my makeup artist/blender. She listened carefully to me and wrote down all the things I asked her for in what would be my ideal foundation. She tested the blend on me through all stages, suggesting additions and evaluating the finish and the color. I could not be more happy! I'm glad to read this review and hope that Prescriptives gets some much-deserved attention. I'm a fan of the entire line!
Custom-blended tinted moisturizer?! Where the heck have I been? I MUST find a counter that does this in Atlanta. This seriously may be the ticket.
Happy Holidays Annie!
I'm thinking of trying one of their products.
xoxoxoxo
That sounds like the best beauty splurge ever! Honestly, if you add up all the various $10 foundations I buy and dislike from the drugstores, I've probably already spent the $67...
Merry Christmas, Annie!
happy holidays annie!
would you consider perspectives custom blend foundations HG material? or even better than la mer?
Eh. I had no luck with the Px counter in Cherry Hill (I drove an hour just to get there). The lady working there (and this was a fairly decent-sized Macy's) was completely inept and blended the foundation in such a slapdash and thoroughly un-hygienic manner that I was left cringing the entire time. The foundation itself looked glittery, cakey and awful and for the life of her, the MA could not match the color of my skin, when so many pre-made foundations and concealers can do just that. Even Px's pre-made concealers better suited my skin color and texture (far more hygienic and at a fraction of the price!). Ultimately, I ended up with a concealer from 3 Custom Color and am quite happy with that.
Anon: I love the match from the Prescriptives but La Mer just feels like heaven against my skin. I will always own both...and the favorite will always rotate based on my moods. LOL
Annie, Welcome to the world of Custom Blend! I've been using Custom Blend for over two years. You should try Custom Blend Powder & Concealer. They are absolutely amazing and make my skin look even better (and I'm already using Custom Blend Foundation).
PS-Jason is my SA too!
In the end it pays to spend more on my foundation.
I couldn't agree more! If you don't have a good base with which to work from, the rest of the products won't look good either. Px is my second "go-to" after Giorgio Armani.
aww, that sounds FABULOUS! anything custom made makes me drool ;-) gotta love exclusitivity and the right to say "oh, this was made for ME"

I LOVE this!!! I have a really hard to match skin color and this is the perfect answer! I do agree that you need a good person to mix it for you. The Macys in Washington, DC was both a hit and miss. The first person who mixed it....just didn't work. But it was MY product so I asked for another associate and it was PERFECTION!!! DC ladies, Belinda is the person to mix it for you!
The Prescriptives in Lenox (Macy's) in Atlanta offers this wonderful service. Sadly, I have heard that prescriptives will be no more after the new year.
