The Curse of the Black Pearl
I am test driving the new Bobbi Brown Mauve Collection. I am loving everything but one product has managed to capture my heart.
Black Pearl Shimmer Gloss is a silverish heather shade.
It retails for $19 and will be at your local Bobbi Brown counter in July.
While I was in Paris, I became entranced with this mysterious lippie that every female television personality wore. It was this twisted gossamer grayish shade. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. I instantly started the coveting process and went on a fruitless search to find it.
I had no luck until Black Pearl.
It is a cool almost dirty heather gray. The pigment is light and there is only a slight shimmer.
It is both subtle and startling at the same time.
I paired it with a smoky eye and was promptly hooked.
I think this lippie is unique but it might be labeled unwearable by the MUA masses.
This is a lippie that might be an acquired taste.
It is far from bubblegum or coral.
This is a gloomy yet sophisticated lippie.

Greyish ala Chanel's Metallic Vamp??
I sense another M.A.C. breakup coming and I'll be back on the Bobbi Brown wagon with this new collection.
That reminds me of a MAC Lipglass shade I own called «Explicit». It's described as «muted golden bronze with icy silver shimmer» but it's not at all golden or bronze, more like a taupe-ey, strange shade.
I don't think I can wear this. I does look like a pretty shade but I'm neutral toward warm in my coloring and anything in mauve has not been able to compete with the skin and the warm toned hair. One of my first NARS glosses was a tiny bit like this shade but had more silver in it. I forgot the name but it is discontinued now.
What do you think? Can a warm toned person wear this?
This is very pretty but I think I'll have to try it on first before making a final verdict. I do love unique lipglosses though. Hmmmm
I love your writing style in your post! I wonder why this color seems to work well in France, but seems a little scary to me here (I'm with storybookheroine on this one!). So, I have to ask, did you find out whether the women you saw in France were wearing a Euro-only color? Probably this Bobbi Brown wasn't out in Paris yet, when you were there? I'm headed to Paris for a few weeks and would love to find the original! Thanks Annie!!!
This looks like the lipgloss version of my beloved OPI Wyatt Earple Purple. That color seems to be one that people either love or hate, so this lipgloss will probably have the same reaction when people try it with their skintone. I'm gad it is working for you!
It does look a bit like Nars Harlow lipgloss.
I look terrible in anything silver-gray on my mouth (my lips are very pigmented and I have a warm cast to my skin), and that makes me sad because I loooooove that color.
I imagine it will look amazing on some, though. I might have to check it out just for laughs (or tears)
Happy Monday ;) ha.
Storybookheroine: I do not think it will flatter warm tones at all. This is truly for the cool toned gals...and it might not work for some of them either. It is a difficult shade to pull off...but it is gorgeous.
I need to revisit Nars Harlow. I think that shade has more frosty silver and a smidge more lilac than the BB. BB is darker and more on the taupe side. But I am doing this by memory(I do not own Harlow). I think I need to do a side by side test.
Anon: I found out nothing. In fact no one seemed that interested in the topic...and I was with beauty bloggers. LOL
I like to watch the news when I travel...so I might have been the only one watching the news...and then actually paying attention to the makeup.
Check out the news while you are in Paris...and let us know if the makeup is still centered on subtle smoky eyes and shimmery taupe/ lilac lips.
Have an amazing time in Paris!!!! I am envious!!!!
Interesting. I would think that a lippie with a greyish tint would kind of give the wearer a corpse-like appearance, but I'm really curious to check this out now!
It sounds awesome!
That's right it was called Harlow. It was sheer and frosty but a bit more silver than focused on mauve. I think it came in a set I purchased.
That's for the post Annie, I didn't think it would so maybe that will save a few people some cash. I do love the name and you took a nice shot of it.
I'm still waiting on my Jo Malone order but I still blame you for the spurge!
i am so in! stoked for beautiful new rarey shades.
Coquette from the Antiquities collection at MAC looked an awful lot like this; a little more brown int he tube, but that color on the lip; love it! more wearable than it looks.
Its got my curiosity!

Hello! Thanks to your post, while I was out tonight I went and bought this lippie. I also bought iced mauve as well. This is such a pretty collection. Bobbi is doing so well in her color choices. Keep up the great info! Malissa from CA
This reminds me of my one true Holy Grail lipstick that is now DC'd, of course - Chanel Silver Mauve.
It was an extremely cool toned greyish mauve pink.
Does anyone know of a dupe for it? I'm thinking about paying the $200 to get the exact color replicated. It is the *perfect* color for me.
Apparently I need to check out this NARS Harlow lipgloss, as well as the BB, but I'd really like to find a color like this in a lipstick.
Forgot to mention that there is also a lip lacquer by Nars called Vagabond--it is a gray with greenish duochrome (kinda)--I use it over my pigmented lips and love the result, on it's own or under another gloss...
I wish it worked on warm skin tones! I know this would dazzle any porcelain complexion.
Kristy Victoria, have you tried Stila Lynn lipstick?

That's a lot like Chanel's Black Tie...beautiful in the tube...on my lips, not so much :(
