Make Up For Ever: High Definition Foundation
My local Sephora finally had the Make Up For Ever's High Definition foundation range in stock. I have been curious about this line for quite a while. This foundation was created for the needs of high definition imaging. Regular foundations were not cutting the cheese when it came to the new format. Every flaw and wrinkle was exaggerated and highlighted. Make Up For Ever created a comprehensive line of foundations, primers and a high definition powder to be film friendly.
The foundation has Sericite. This heightens the diffusion of light and intensifies the glow of the skin. This is a fancy description of a smoke and mirrors effect. I think the coverage is above average and ranks among the best with La Mer, Carmindy and Kanebo's Sensai Fluid Finish. The effect is flawless skin with a hint of glow. This is more moisturizing than Carmindy's foundation with the added ingredient of Relipidium. It creates a smooth texture that clings on to powder. There are no caking or creasing issues. It is a waterproof formula so it seems to resist disappearance acts.
I generally shy away from oil free foundations. I find them hard to maneuver and drying. This formula's texture feels richer and thicker than a standard oil free foundation. It applies smooth and resists streaking.
I was seriously impressed with the color range. I would like to see more dark shades but pale girls will be delighted with the tone choices. Tone is often forgotten in creating foundations.

I happen to be a big fan of La Mer and Carmindy's foundations, so will definitely be checking this one out too! Thanks so much for the great review!
I *love* this stuff so much. Applied with the MAC #187, it is absolute perfection. I hardly need concealer afterwards! I like this better than the La Mer, it's that good.
I have been in the market for a new foundation since I felt my Laura Mercier oil free was not working well for me. I am 38 and have dry skin. I have fair skin with freckles. I have a few lines on my forhead and light wrinkles around my eyes. I have been trying many different foundations for the last month and I just tried the MUFE HD Foundation yesterday. I loved it in my bathroom mirror. My skin looked smooth and flawless but then I took a mirror outside and I was horrified. All of my lines and wrinkles were magnified and I looked so old - exactly the opposite of what it is supposed to do. It looked so bad I actually started to cry because I looked so old. It also started to feel really tight on my skin even though I had applied all my products and moisturizers before. I wore it for a few hours around the house but then I had to remove it. My skin looked so much better with the makeup off. My wrinkles were softer and my skin looked healthier. I then applied all my skin products, primer and then Estee Lauder Double Wear Light and the difference was huge. So natural and healthy. I went outside and my wrinkles looked normal - no super old lady like with the HD Foundation. I know MUA reviewers like the HD Foundation but I want to exncourage people to wear it in different lights before purchasing. Get samples from Sephora and don't go by the lighting in the store! I am so glad I didn't buy it and waited to try it at home.
I haven't tried the foundation, but I do use the High Definition Powder on a daily basis. It sets my makeup perfectly, and the texture is feather-light. I also love how imperceptible it is on the skin.
I haven't tried the foundation yet, but I do have their translucent HD powder and its fantastic! I've been using Laura Mercier's translucent setting powder for a few years now, but switched to this after trying a deluxe sample from Sephora. I definitely prefer MUFE's HD powder now. It blends really well and doesn't dry out my skin at all.
The translucent powder is good on women with fair skin, but on my olive skin, it's horrible. The whiteness of the powder is extremely apparent, no matter how much I rub at it. It really changes the tone of my skin, even though it claims it works for everyone. I may take the foundation for a test run though.
Um, I don't think you've used the expression "cutting the cheese" correctly, dear.
I love this stuff. It goes on so nicely and covers so well, but natural. I Also love the HD powder.
Another product I am loving, the contents of our makeup bags are the same!
i went to my trusted MUFE counter and the SA told me this oil free foundation isn't for me. But I told her that everyone who's tried it said it's moisturising so???
my HG is MUFE Liquid Lift and HD is not replacing it as the two are totally different.
even though my SA told me it's not for me, your review makes me want it very badly! I have no time to venture to that MUFE counter these few days but I just might next week or so.
you are such a lemming builder!
