Blogdorf Beach Party Blanket: Bronzers
Ohio is going through a very long Spring season. I am not complaining. It is interesting to finally experience the mild temperatures and April showers of springtime.
But it is June.
I would like to see the sun and not wear a cardigan.
To get myself in the summertime mood, I am exploring my bronzer stash.
For such a pale girl, I sure do have a lot of bronzers!
One of my current favorites is
Soliel Tan De Chanel 4 Facettes Bronzing Powder from the Summer 2009 Cote D'Azur collection . It is 4 strips of color that range from a rose bisque to a coppery brown. Swirled together it creates just a smidge of sun "kissingness". It does not morph into dirt or any type of muddiness on the face. It also does not turn into "Lohan" territory either. There is a slight shimmer to it but it is daytime friendly. The compact comes with a handy brush. The bristles are two toned. One side is sable and the other side is an inky black. It distributes the bronzer perfectly. Not heavy handed at all.
This retails for $65 and is currently at your local Chanel counter.

I have quite a few bronzers, but I'm not using them at all this summer. It's dawned on me that pairing bronzer with foundation is wrong, but I don't ever go without foundation so I am now going without bronzer.
What I do instead is to use a good self-tanner (Clarins Delicious), a thin coat of foundation, and then Nars Copacabana and whatever peachy blush is at the top of my blush box. This seems to work for me better than a bronzer. However, here are some bronzers that I like (for various reasons, duly noted):
Tom Ford EL (in the big gold clamshell): I love the gold case that is too heavy to carry. The bronzer itself is a pretty, thin dust without much color payoff.
Laura Geller Bronze-N-Brighten: Mimics a light sunburn (or chapped face if applied too heavily).
Beausoleil by Sue Devitt: This is lovely but a bit shimmery. I use this as blush. Can be found super-cheaply on eBay.
Fresh Here Comes the Sun palette: The blush and the lighter of the bronzers work well together; the darker of the bronzers is muddied.
Chanel Bronze Universal and Dr. Hauscka Translucent Bronze Concentrate are favorites. I use one or both every day, they last forever, and they even out my skin tone better than any foundation I have. Expensive, but they last so long it doesn't seem like it.
I envy your weather ... it has been 96 degrees and up in Houston for the past week and I doubt that it will go back under 90 degrees until October. Lord save us all.
Haha!
Suzanna: I love that TF bronzer for that quality. I love it's pigment weakness. LOL
Faith: That sucks too. All I ask is for mild yet warm temps and glimpses of the sun.
This Chanel bronzer is much too gorgeous. It was at my counter for what seemed like 5 minutes before it was sold out and the display removed.
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!
I LOVE the new Chanel Cote d'Azur collection, I think all the nude colors are so beautiful. It definitely has been colder in NYC as well and I haven't had the chance to get my tan on. I try to cover this with Sephora Bronzing Powder with SPF it has blocks of colors from pink to gold and a subtle shimmer. Thank god it has SPF too because I'm so bad about wearing SPF as a cream!

Karla: I agree!
It has just the right amount (shimmer, pigment power and color)of everything.
Sarah: I will have to check out that bronzer! You had me at pink.
Hi! I just want to share that I use both Chanel Bronze Universal and Dr. Hauscka Translucent Bronze Concentrate. These are excellent and last forever. My skin is sensitive and it doesn’t tolerate many things. But really this foundation is so good that I never dreamt of using any other one.
