Sun Salutation
A review of Pratima Neem Rose Face Sunscreen 30 SPF
by Jessica M
A few weeks ago, I was paying a visit to Philadelphia (one of my favorite cities, where I lived for a few years) and I passed a small salon called Moko. My eye was caught by the salon’s window displays of natural haircare and beauty products, so I had to go inside and do some browsing. I was really intrigued by a skincare line called Pratima, which I’d never seen before, and I bought a bottle of Neem Rose Face Sunscreen since I needed a new facial sunblock anyway. It turns out that Pratima, an Ayurvedic spa and clinic, is actually located in New York! I’m looking forward to going there and trying more products.
In the meantime, I’m completely thrilled with my Neem Rose Face Sunscreen. It has a short and sweet list of ingredients: water, micronized zinc oxide (18.6%!), rose essential oil, neem oil for healing, vitamin E, licorice (which has anti-inflammatory properties), and a few other soothing and rejuvenating botanical essences. The product is packaged in a recyclable metal bottle with a pump dispenser. I’ve found that three pumps of the bottle releases enough sunscreen to cover my face. The sunscreen is a light cream that applies smoothly, like a high-quality moisturizer, and quickly absorbs into the skin. There’s no ghostly “whitish” after-effect, no greasy oil-slick feeling, and no chemical smell, just a light, natural rose scent that fades in a minute or two.
I’ve been wearing Neem Rose Face Sunscreen under my makeup for the past two weeks. It makes my face feel protected and healthy. I’m very fair-skinned and I’m obsessive about wearing sunblock, but I usually have a hard time finding a product that satisfies me on all counts. Pratima might just be the answer to my sun-protection prayers!

I've been testing facial sunscreens for the past few weeks and I'm still looking. Thanks for the review, I might try this.
just ordered it.. thx for the tip.. most of the blocks are too thick or white or oily
I've been using Philosophy Hope in a Jar SPF 20. It is a bit thick for my taste, but not bad. I haven't had any breakouts or reaction on my combo-oily skin either, so far so good!
Did you know that neem oil is used as a contraceptive? It causes infertility, albeit temporary.
Debra, I agree: so many sunblocks are much too heavy, white, and greasy. This one was a pleasant surprise!
Chickadee, Philosophy does seem to have some loyal fans! Good luck!
Anonymous, I think neem would have to be taken internally to have that effect, as an oil or a tea... the same goes for many herbal extracts. Of course, anyone pregnant or trying to become pregnant should discuss all her personal care regimens with her physician.
Wow, It is good to use some tested products like what you have just introduced her.
Being nice and healthy are ready good, thanks for the information.
Thanks for the recommendation. I've always used the thick white sunscreens for my ghostly skin, and I find I'm getting really tired of the clogged pores, etc.
Hopefully, this will work well.
Anonymous, I struggle with the risk of clogged pores all the time (I'm pale and somewhat sensitive, but oily-skinned), and this sunscreen truly has not caused me any problems. Hooray!
I want to really try this! However, their online shopping policy involves you sending your credit card info through email, not very safe. Hopefully if i visit NY one day i can find it =(
my favorite is the peter thomas roth powder sunscreen - it works well and is great for those who hate standard greasy sunscreens!
Anonymous, Maybe you could do a phone order...? It's kind of old-fashioned, but still an option! ;)
Emily, that's one I haven't tried! I'll keep an eye out for it in Sephora.
I usually use SPF that is included in moisturizers, because using a separate one always makes my skin appear shiny. Lately, I've been liking the SPF that come in powder protections as well. But this product seems lightweight as well as pretty natural, I would love to try it out. Thanks for the review!
Sarah, So true: sunscreen layer + moisturizer layer = shine, shine, shine! I'm using this product as a two-in-one, which simplifies things *and* feels less greasy. :)
I have never heard of this product but might give it a try, I have oily combination skin and absolutely hate clogged pores after using sunscreen for a week straight. I recently saw this video on how to prevent wrinkles and might try the sunscreen they say to use in the video http://www.howcast.com/videos/143624-How-To-Prevent-Wrinkles
Ghislaine, Thanks for the link! I just watched the video. :)
