Crazy Busy Beautiful Carmindy
TLC's beauty guru and creator of my favorite drugstore foundation, Carmindy has a released a beauty book filled with over 600 tips. They range from the useful to the downright quirky.
It is a fun read!
Some of my favorites from the book:
*Mix a small amount of baking soda with a drop of liquid facial cleanser for lighter,brighter-looking skin without bleaching.
*Try French blue eye drops to get the red out of tired eyes. The blue color makes the whites look whiter. You can find these in boutique pharmacies or online.
*To fade a "hickie" roll a closed lipstick tube over the area.
The craziest beauty ritual:
*My grandmother taught me that snail slime helps eliminate acne. I secretly wipe a bit on my blemishes. I swear it works!
(Cheri, 37)
The beauty guide is available for $12.99 at your local bookstore.
You can win a copy of Carmindy's Crazy Busy Beautiful by posting your favorite or most wacky beauty tip in the comments.

Here you go:
A Vietnamese manicurist told me that the way to get rid of a pimple was to repeatedly roll a hard-boiled egg over it (with shell still intact). Apparently the egg "absorbed" the gunk in the pimple.
Talk about egg on one's face.
Every night before I go to bed I place a cooling gel eye mask in the freezer. When I wake up I immediately put it on and wear it for 15 minutes. Its a good way to spend those extra "snooze" minutes because it wakes you up, gets rid of morning puffiness, brings some blood flow to the face and is a great relaxing and rejuvenating way to start your day! I love it!
My best tips are: sticky lip gloss under lipstick - makes the color prettier and you get lots of staying power. thanks for the contest and your blog!
Slice a white or yellow onion and dap the juice on pimples. The sulfur in onions is supposed to help with breakouts. I've never tried it and have no idea if it is true or works. It is odd though.
I was always told if you can not brush your teeth, eat an apple. Supposedly it would get all of the scum off of the front surfaces and help to remove anything stuck between your teeth.
Use q-tips to pop your pimples ... the pressure is great at getting the "tough ones" out, and it's completely sanitary - so any germs from your fingers or other prodding tools won't come anywhere near your skin!
To get nail polish to dry quicker, try quick drying liquids that essie, opi, as well as some drugstore brand sells. It won't be super dry, but it won't be wet to the touch.
Slather your feet with diaper rash cream, slip on a plastic produce bag from the grocery over each foot, then put on a pair of socks, trim the excess plastic from around the top of the socks, then sleep like that all night. After you wake up get in the shower with a scrubber and scrub off all of the dead skin.
After applying my shampoo and conditioner, as a final hair rinse I rinse my head with hibiscus tea that has cooled for an hour.
I make the tea from a herbal hibiscus tea bag, but I don't add anything to it. I let it cool for an hour.
I read that hibiscus flowers are good for bringing out the red highlights in red and auburn hair, so I tried once. I now practice this on a regular basis for shinier hair.
Women in Asia like to drink what is called "birds nest soup" for anti-aging and just overall health (supposed to boost immune system). (See Wiki article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird's_nest_soup). Apparently the bird's nests are made from the spit of swiftlets and their spit (and probably whatever else they ate) are rich in nutrients and have been used in Chinese cooking for thousands of years. My mom drinks it from time to time. We get those bottled, they're quite expensive, and they're sometimes sweetened with sugar. Doesn't really have a real taste to it. Anyway, imagine drinking bird spit!

My grandmother taught me to rub Bag Balm (the green tin of stuff used on cow's udders) into my feet, put on a pair of socks, go to bed, and when I wake up - voila! Soft feet! Works great on hands with a pair of cotton gloves, too.

Use Monistat Chafing Gel as a replacement for makeup primer. It is the same as using Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. $5 instead of $35!
You have to find it near the "feminine products", but rest assured, it is fine for your face!
Sounds odd, but boy does it work- and it's way cheaper than pore strips. A thin layer of Elmer's School Glue over blackhead prone area, left to dry, and then slowly peeled off, will remove all the gunk in your pores! It works!!
OMG!! Nothing to do with a snail will EVER touch my face or anywhere else, for that matter!!!! LOL
A woman once told me to collect my first urination of the morning and apply it with a cotton ball to my face to made it smooth. I thought that was odd, but she said you see "urea" in many beauty products so why not use your own. I did try it once out of curiosity. Funny! I will say that it seemed to work very well.
I never remember to leave those gel eye-masks in the fridge or freezer. So my fave tip to deal with puffy eyes in the morning is to stick 2 metal spoons in the freezer for 5 mins, then press the backs of the spoons against your closed eyes. Repeat as necessary until de-puffed!
Use eye drops on your red blemishes, it will constrict the blood vessels and make them less noticeable by taking the red out! Also, make your own exfoliator with olive oil and raw sugar or brown sugar. It is good all over your body!
I forgot to add that I'm from the Buckeye state too! My email is stephanie beatty 1 at yahoo dot com
We all know about brushing our teeth with baking soda, right? Well, I learned that brushing with hydrogen peroxide helps whiten teeth as well. After all, hydrogen peroxide is what's in those teeth whitening strips. Hydrogen peroxide tastes disgusting (worse than baking soda) but it helps!
Hello! i put all my skin care products in the fridge! specially the lotions and eye care products.
See you!
For blemishes that look inflamed, my mom always said to drop some Visine on it. The same power that "gets the red out" of your eyes will work to calm down the blemish.
When I was in high school many a year back, my friend's sister used to lick her nails 5 minutes after polishing. She swore that made the paint dry faster. Weird!
Save your old coffee grounds in ziplog bags and put them in the fridge. The'll keep about a week, so you can get a good volume going. Then, before you slip into a little slip of a dress where you need to be in top form, take the bag out of the fridge and into the tub with you. Also bring some cling film. Apply the grounds where you need to tighten and reduce puffiness then wrap with film. Let it sit maybe 15 minutes, then turn on the shower and unwrap and scrub the grounds in a circular motion.
The caffeine will reduce water retention swelling in the tissue and will tighten the area (temporarily, alas). The coarseness of the grounds also acts as exfoliant.
first of all @KrisInPhilly, sulfur may kill bacteria, but it also irritates skin causing oil production, free radical damage, and encouraging acne!
My tip is to coat any rough skin (like heels or elbows) with a 2% salycilic acid (also alcohol free) acne treatment (neutrogena makes a good one called Neutrogena Acne Stress Control, 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment) then coat the skin with a moisturizing lotion or body butter. The salycilic acid evenly exfoliates skin without irritation and the moisturizer will make the new skin underneath moist and soft.

I have terribly dry skin on my hands and have found that foot/heel lotion or cream works much better than hand or body lotion or cream.
I put some on before bed, put on cotton gloves and go to sleep - don't forget the cuticles. In the morning they are smooth and soft.
By the way, my gloves tend to fall off during the night so I put covered elastics for hair to keep them on!
When my dry skin starts flaking badly, especially post-peel, I use scotch tape to get the flakes off my face in an emergency. It keeps me from scratching. I got the idea from the old school Clinique demos...
I was told that you could use frozen coins tapes to your face to eliminate swelling of acne. Have I tried it? No.
Everyone: Thanks so much for participating! There were some great and truly whacky beauty tips.
The one I chose was from Mina 24.
As a tea fanatic...it grabbed my attention. Plus...who does not covet shiny hair????
Mina: Please contact me at annieytown@yahoo.com
I need your info to send off the book!
Congrats and thanks again for reading and participating.
Contests generally make me nervous...but this one was fun and drama free. I might have to do more of these!!!!!
Tooth paste on blemishes.
You can't beat Milk of Magnesia for oily skin! Just shake up a bottle, put some on a cotton ball, and apply a super thin layer. Let it dry, and then apply your makeup. Cheap and it works!
