Day 31: Kanebo
Sensai Colours collection

Kanebo Sensai launched a 22 piece collection in February based on the Kasane, the layered color combinations of Kimonos during the Heian period. Most imperial women wore 5-12 layers of dress with each color indicating their rank in society. The colors had to be arranged in a precise order and were used in specific combinations according to the season and occasion. The Sensai Colours collection was created with these traditional hues, combinations and techniques in mind.

There are three lippie products in this specific collection. The Lasting Treatment Rouge lipstick is ultra creamy with a gorgeous silky texture. The formulation contains Kanten treated pigments and Auto Coating Gel. Kanten is a jelly-like substance that is often used as a thickener in Japanese cuisine. Auto Coating Gel is a clear liquid oil derived from silicone.

The lipstick glides on smooth and stays fresh for the entire day with and without primer. The pigment power is what makes this lippie stand out from the competition. The color is vivid and intense. There are no whispers of a shade or need for layering. The entire color palette is more classical than trend. The 18 shades range from cherry blossom pinks to dragon reds. The shade I tested was Soubi LT16. This was a coral red like a koi fish.
The shape of this specific lipstick was interesting. It was flat and angled. This made application more comfortable and quick.

Deep Moist Shine Rouge lipstick delivers a highly translucent film of color. It is shimmery but with no grit or chunks. It feels too smooth to be a standard shimmer. It contains Kanten treated pigments and natural Phyto Volumising oil. My lips did not register any tingling or plumping effects. I detected only smoothness and hydration. My lips felt and looked pretty amazing.
This lippie comes in 12 shades. I tested Botan MS108. This was a sheer peach nude with gold shimmer.

The third lip product in the Colours series is a silky lip gloss. I did not test this product. It comes in two shades. From the website it looks like a cool toned opal shade along with a warmer sheer gold.

The only thing I have tried from Kanebo is a self-tanner that didn't really tan and was horribly expensive.

I love the idea of cherry blossom pink lipsticks; they remind me of being 12 years old and in rapture over the Revlon lipsticks in the local drugstore.
