“We Miss You,” Hissed the Lovecats
A review of Paul & Joe Honeysuckle Eye Shadow Duo (Spring 2010)
by Jessica M
A few years ago, I went through an intense Paul & Joe phase; then, for no particular reason, I got distracted and started sampling other brands. But I’ve recently been spending more time with Paul & Joe again, and here’s one reason that I still like this line so much: its products combine cuteness and practicality so well that you can feel frivolous while buying something you’ll actually use on a regular basis.
I just purchased an eye shadow from the Spring 2010 “Wild Flowers” limited edition collection: Honeysuckle (#064), an ivory/brown powder duo. Cute: the packaging features a pair of cats on a floral-pattern background. (The limited-edition designs are always inspired by textiles in the latest Paul & Joe fashion collection.) Practical: the shadow itself can be easily depotted, if you’re one of those clever people who like to arrange your cosmetics in palettes. Cute: little flower or clover shapes of warm golden-brown shadow are inserted into the ivory background. Practical: the colors can be swirled together, or else you can wear the ivory as an all-over shade and use a finer brush to apply the brown as a contour shade.
So, how does this product perform? The powder is finely milled and it blends easily; the ivory has a very delicate shimmer effect, and the brown looks softer and subtler on skin than it does in the pan. Some of the shimmer drifted into my under-eye area during application, but otherwise, the shadow stayed put during the day. For me, this is an ideal everyday color duo; plus, it complements any of my usual lip colors. Purr-fect!
The Wild Flowers line also includes two other shadows, Lady’s Slipper 065 (lime green/light pink) and Purple Clover (#066, dusty lilac/grayish purple), plus three potted lip glosses: Baby’s Breath (#001, sheer ivory/creamy nude), Snapdragon 002 (sparkly peach/creamy orange), Primrose (#003, creamy pink/sparkly fuchsia).
The shadows in the Spring 2010 collection sell for $20 each, the glosses for $25 each. You can find them at the Paul & Joe counter at Bergdorf Goodman in New York (call 212-872-2759; Caroline is very helpful!) or online at Beautyhabit.com.

Can we see some images of the shadow on eyelid? The packaging is so cute you almost do not want to use it!

Great review. To be honest I never hear of this before, I will take a look.
Awww...loving The Cure reference - reminds me of my youthful goth days!
I wish I could see these in person but unfortunately Paul & Joe are not sold here in SF boo hoo!!
I LOVE this packaging. Drat, now I have a new lemming. Thanks for the post!
Love the packaging of these with the kitties and the clovers!
Jessica: Thanks for this post!!! You have inspired many lemmings today!
Lexi: I think we would be friends in real life!!! Huge alt/goth girl here.
Helena: I will see if J would be willing to do a swatch. I have been struggling with swatching because it is so flippin cold in Ohio. Plus there is no sun to be found.
I appreciate Karlasugar's work so damn much. Her swatches are always perfect. The sun is always bright. She kicks butt.
Olivia: The line is beyond adorable. The quality is also superb.
Anon: Jessica is a lemming monster for many of us!
Melanie: I love anything with kitties or bunnies right now.
Hello everyone! I can never resist cat packaging. Fortunately, I needed a pretty, everyday e/s shade anyway! I'm shy about showing my face on the interwebs, but I'll do a swatch on my arm if the sun ever comes out and send it to Annie. And yes, I allude to The Cure every chance I get, Lexi! xo
Annie - you flatter me! Don't get me started ranting on Hot Topic hahahaha!
the cat pattern looks cute and very stylish
