40 Days and 40 Nights of Beauty Cult Classics
Day 33, MAC's Parrot Eyeshadow
You can not have a beauty cult classic project and not include the famous MAC Parrot.
Parrot is a legend among beauty products.
This is a tealish eyeshadow that has managed to sell out twice and fetch three figures on Ebay. Patti aka Cavewoman had to swap a boatload of products to gift me Parrot. I joke that she had to swap a grandchild.
Parrot is not exactly a neutral or safe color.
It is a rich peacock blue.
A teal shade with oomph.
Parrot is surprisingly workable for all it's intensity and power. It looks amazing with browns, golds and greens. I generally use it as a crease shade or as a liner.
Many Specktra and MUA members have created looks that are just spellbinding.
I am constantly amazed at it's beauty and versatility.
The texture and pigment power is above average.
It has a velvet-like feel.
MAC relaunched Parrot in the Originals collection. My local MAC counter quickly sold out of it. So far I have not spotted anyone in Youngstown sporting this eyeshadow. I have a horrible habit of making a scene when someone is wearing Parrot. I make a fuss worthy of the Beatles. I gush and ask 1000 questions.
Parrot just makes me lose my mind.
There are many dupes of Parrot. I own Shu Uemura's ME Blue 638. This is a fairly close shade but lacks Parrot's glow.
Tell me what you think of Parrot in the comments. Also list any dupes that come to mind.

Disclosure: Parrot was a gift frpm Cavewoman. She swapped a lot of stuff to get it for me!

lord knows I love color, but Parrot just doesn't do it for me at all. I don't get the appeal
I read elsewhere that L'oreal's HP in showy I think is close. Is this a shade anyone can wear? I'm learning makeup late in the game (35) and I enjoy your blog.
Boots Organics in Angelica! I did an informal swatch test of the two on my hand when I first got my Parrot, and they looked identical on my hand. I've noticed since that time that the Parrot has more color pigment in less product, but I think the Angelica is still reasonably close, and a lot cheaper.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Parrot and lament the fact that I can never find it. One of my friends, who happens to be a MAC artist told me that she secretly uses L'Oreal's HIP in 'Showy' mixed with a little of HIP in 'Flashy' to get that perfect green-blue. I took her advice and I couldn't be happier...I think this new color may be better than Parrot....
I love this color. Its so bright and perfect for spring. I would defintally wear it, but probably only as a crease or eyeliner. I would never full out wear that color all over my lids. I would look like a clown if I did that. I might have to go buy it now, even though that would probably be difficult to do.
There are several on auction at ebay! Do you think these are authentic? http://shop.ebay.com/_Makeup-Makeup-Tools-Accessories__mac-parrot_W0QQ_nkwZmacQ20parrotQQ_fxdZ1QQ_ptasZ2Q2cMusicQ5fCDsQ5e2Q2cPostcardsQ5e3 is a link for you. Hmm!
artdeco in 262 is almost similar to parrot
Avon and Lancome both have shades that are really, really close. I love Parrot and covet it jealously.
I am with the first poster, I am afraid. But I am moved to ask -- WTH, they can't bring it back again? if it is this popular? I hate it when makeup companies do that.
If anyone is looking to purchase it , it is available under the good bye section of maccosmetics.com.
Love your site btw !
