Chanel's Exceptionnel De Chanel Intense Volume and Curl Mascara
I have been testing this mascara for several weeks thanks to a local sales associate who kindly gifted me with a mini sample tube.
That's right kids...there are samples.
This mascara brush is unique in that it has bristles and a comb. This might the beauty equivalent of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The combination is simple and genius.
The bristles deliver volume and oomph while the comb delivers the curl.
The formula is a inky black that is fairly sooty in a spectacular way. It does not clump or smudge. My curls look full and curled to unprecedented heights. It is magic when used with my Tarte curler.
I used my curler before applying two coats of the formula. After the mascara dried, I used my curler again.
My local SA who has been blessed with a fine pair of lashes looked amazing. It looked like she had Shu false lashes on. However my one short-lashed friend received lackluster results.
This mascara is at your local Chanel counter and retails for $28. It comes in a variety of shades. Smoky Noir(black), Smoky Brun(brown),Smokey Marine(blue) and Smoky Violine(Violet).
Have you tested this mascara? What have been your results so far? Share your experiences in the comments.

Unfortunately, I purchased the full size at Nordstrom and was disappointed. I was expecting greatness and it was just ok - and therefore not worth the price tag.
But then again, I always find that I like the mascara samples better than the full size version. Maybe one of the cosmetic companies will start offering a sampler set?
EEEEeeeeeeepppppppp!!!!!! I am getting a sample of this from Allure to try because I signed up to be one of their beauty experts! So now I am really excited to try it!!!

I bought some in Japan in July (they also had the smokey quad & duo already?!).
Some days this mascara works amazingly well for me and other days not...not sure why that happens.
I still fall back on YSL faux cils or everlong.
I have a sample and found it to be good. Very volumizing but it made my lashes droop so the curl was not here for me. I found it a tad thick & clumpy but I always use a lash comb so that wasn't really a problem. I don't think I would purchase a full size one as I like my mascara to be darker. I find that this is a smokey black not a Jet black, which I prefer. I do like the innovative brush tho!
I tested this as an Allure Expert, and was sort of disappointed. I hold very high expectations of any product that costs as much as this one does, especially considering it's one of the only products I use up rapidly (and EVER lol).
I liked the separation this gave my lashes, and the volume was decent enough, but what always lets me down is when a mascara says it curls ... and it doesn't. Worse yet, this took the curl right OUT of my lashes.
For this reason alone, I stick to w/p formulations. But even if Chanel were to come out with a w/p version of this, the price tag kills it for me.
I returned this mascara and I NEVER return cosmetics. Maybe it's just me but it feels tacky.
The results were clump city and I was so irritated that I returned it right away.
I still love Inimitable the most of all Chanel mascaras.
if you have short/thin lashes, I really like the maybelline one that is cheap and the wand is super small so it gets the tiny hairs...(good for lower lashes if you have only a few lower)...I forget the name but its the one with the tiny wand.
I also tried this as an Allure Expert, and I loved except I found it difficult to remove---it required remover and I prefer a mascara (love my Diorshow!) that comes off with soap and water.
how does it differ from clinques brush-comb one ?
Disappointed. Very.
I didn't love it. However that said it did produce results. My problems were with the brush, which lets face it, user error on my end. The product didn't clump or smudge and did curl my lashes, I just never got the hang of the brush.
I got this about a month ago as a Chanel insider. Loves it. Loves. Thickening, seperating, volumizing. I don't need the curl being somewhat lash blessed but I may try this with my shu curler anyway just to be porny.
It's different from the Clinique brush-comb mascara because the combs are interspersed among the brushes, rather than having a comb on one side and a brush on the other. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to twist the brush while applying, to insure that my lashes were getting both the brush and comb. But whatever I did, this mascara actually worked for me. My lashes are normal/long but not thick and I usually use Lash Discovery (which is what I think ca girl was describing). Not sure if I'll purchase a full size, because like heidi says, the samples are better than the full sized mascaras...maybe because there's less product in the sample tubes so it doesn't come out thick and clumpy?
