Day 11: Lipsticks with a Cause
There are many lippies that do good works. L'Oreal releases a lipstick called The Color of Hope every year. The proceeds from this lippie benefits ovarian cancer charities. Cargo created the eco-friendly lipstick line called Plant Love. Besides being made from eco-certified packaging, Cargo donates every $2 to St Judes Children Research Hospital.
But the most famous lippie with a cause has to be MAC's Viva Glam. This lipstick has raised over $130 million dollars for aids related charities. There are currently 6 shades.
MAC is also launching a special edition VI lipstick that will be a soft blue pink. There will also be two lipglasses. Viva Glam VI Special Edition will be a soft tinged Mauve frost,
while Viva Glam VI lipglass will be a warm plum shade with multireflective, multidimensional pearl.
Viva Glam I is the debut lippie in the series. It is a warm brick red with a blue tone that manages to stay "true to shade" on the lips. It does not morph into anything remotely fuchsia or orange. The formula is a matte and has a vintage feel to it. This is a very sophisticated yet understated red. It is a safe red for the shy girl.
Viva Glam II is a satin lipstick from MAC. This formula is like a matte but with a dash of moisture. The color is a fairly basic warm nude with a slight pink undertone. It works better with added features such as lip liners and gloss. This shade really captures the late 90's. It is slightly murky and works very well with smokey eyes.
Viva Glam III is another matte formula. It is a muted wine shade. This might be the most wearable way to wear a dark lippie. It has a very 1920's slightly goth vibe. Quite striking and current.
Viva Glam IV is a frost lipstick. It is on the raspberry side of red with a dash of gold shimmer. This lippie might be tricky because the shade is fairly cool toned while the shimmer aspect is warm. These multi-personality lippies always manage to morph into a rosey bronze on my lips. I have a box filled with these type of lippies. They need their own lippie post.
Viva Glam V is a lustre formula. This shade is another rose based nude. However, this formula is less pigmented and has a dash of shimmer. This is more pink than MAC Viva Glam II. This is a nude for the low maintenance gal. It is just easy to wear. No priming or layering is required.
Viva Glam VI is the latest in this charity series. This is also a lustre formula. This means the pigment is lighter and it is pearlized. The color is a warm terracotta plum. It is slightly bronze-like and is more a muted plummy brown than red.
The newest Glam product is Viva Glam VI. This is called a special edition. I have no clue if that means the same as limited edition. This is my personal favorite from the whole charity lot. It is dusty, blue based pink lustre. It gives a natural and flattering pinky glow to the lips. This is far from a bubblegum or barbie pink shade. This is more of a flush or the inside of a rose petal. I can not rave enough.
The entire Viva Glam series is well thought out. The MAC team focuses on creating wearable and easy to wear shades that avoid being trendy. Each shade has withstood the test of time and are essential in a lipstick collection. They retail for $14 and are available at your local MAC counter.

I own every single one of them even if it's not a good color on me ;]. I love reds and a mauve or dusty pink is a go-to shade for me so overall there's lots of Viva Glam that I can wear. Haven't seen this newest SE, though, thanks for the tip! Molly
The new Viva Glams are gorgeous! When do they hit the counters?
The Estee Lauder company and all of their brands are very charity-conscious. I think Clinique and Estee Lauder, and Stila (when it was a Lauder company) have done charity lipsticks in the past, mostly for Breast Cancer Awareness.
I'm really excited about the new Viva Glam shade! It is supposed to be released on March 19th. The lipstick is totally new, and is said to be a mauve-like shade. They are only repromoting the Viva Glam VI SE gloss with it. I'm excited to see it, I love Viva Glams V and VI from the permanent line and they are my go-to shades (especially V lipglass)!
I only own one, the classic: Viva Glam I.
I am a huge fan of Viva Glam VI, the regular one. It is the perfect warm shade for someone who doesn't really lean towards warm lippies. It is the lippie I pull out most often when others are not working.
I love the gloss for this as well but do wish that it was a closer match to the lippie.
Lipsticks with a good cause? Now there is a good excuse to shop!
Great post!

I have gone through a couple tubes of the original Viva Glam back in the day, and a couple tubes of Viva Glam IV, the raspberry Viva Glam, which stays very raspberry on me and is incredibly sexy. Nowadays, I am a big fan of the Fergie promoted Viva Glam VI gloss and MUST get the new lippie as well. MUST.
Viva Glam V is my current fav, but I need to check out the new color STAT! :)
I only own the original Viva Glam, the warm red. I love it so.
I have the regular VI and I loove it. It's my first MAC lippie ever and it is fast becoming my every day color & one I bring with me in my makeup bag too. It's a great color. I hope no PLAN on getting more from Viva Glam and MAC in general, they are all great colors.
Wasn't Fergie involved with this line? Or am I'm making it up?
