A Lipstick is worth a Hundred Words: The Lipstick Building
By Jessica M
The skyscraper located on Third Avenue near 53rd Street in midtown Manhattan has been known as “The Lipstick Building” since it opened in 1986. New Yorkers gave it that nickname because of its oval shape and its receding upper levels, which resemble an uncapped, swiveled-up lipstick tube. The architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee probably didn’t have lipstick in mind, but the nickname has stuck. Ironically, most of the building’s tenants aren’t connected with the beauty business: they’re law firms, financial companies, and so on. (Bernard Madoff occupied offices there until a few months ago, but that’s another story!)

Great photo!
Hi James! The photo is great. Even you were saying about the nickname of the building then I thought that the nick name is absolutely right. And architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee, they are genius for making this design. By the way post is nice.
