The Barneys Beauty Catalog

Serge Lutens makeup: I make a point to avoid this counter at Barneys because I think the prices do not match the quality. Do not get me wrong...I think Serge is a genius, but if I am going to pay $75 for a lipstick it better be unique in shade and formula.
That being said...Mauve de Swann looks like an interesting nude shade.
Has anyone tested it?

Josie Maran: I spent some quality time at this counter. The eyeshadows looked and felt lovely. She also has some promising shimmer lip glosses. The most impressive aspect to the line is the sleek looking packaging that is biodegradable. The SA boasted that the eyeshadows only take a few months to break down in the compost pile. I do not know how many NYCers have compost piles, but this Ohio gal does.

Simon Doonan interviewed Josie for the catalog.
Here is a snippet:

SD: Can mascara be organic?

JM: Mascara can not be completely organic. Sice it is applied around the very sensitive eye area it must contain preservatives to kill any bacteria. We are using diocide-a gentle and safe preservative. Our mascara also contains several organic oils(jojoba, soybean, and aragan) which condition the lashes. We have left out all the harsh chemicals and parabens.

Blogdorf Goodman would ask: But can it curl straight stumpy lashes?

Lipstick Queen: I fell head over heels for their new oxymoron matte lip gloss. The review will be forthcoming.

100% Love: An exclusive Barneys fragrance from the nose and hands of Sophie Grojsman. It is a mixture that recalls dark chocolate and berries. Somehow I missed this at the fragrance counter.

Serge Lutens Louve: For the fragrance junkies----It is a more cherry infused Rahat.

Hermes Kelly Calache: It is very light and disappears much too quick. However, I loved the mixture of iris, rose and leather. I never detected the mimosa note.

Frederic Malle's Outrageous was a bust. I just had no feeling for it. It inspired no passion or hate from any members of our group. Malle describes it as "having the overt sex appeal of the disco years, without the heaviness of the time".
The notes are caipirinha, clean laundry, green apple, orange blossom, amber and cedar.
Nothing makes me think of the Abba/Studio 54 years like clean laundry and green apple.

Parfums de Rosine Twill Rose(exclusive to Barneys): A green rose with tangerine, pink pepper berry, patchouli and amber. Another scent that I missed!

The new Pucci fragrance really sucks.
There.
I said it.

Moving on....the new Tom Ford Black Orchid Voile de Fleur is fabulous. I love the added twist of violets and jasmine to the Black Orchid formula. The bottle is very confusing.
My bottle looks exactly like the original Black Orchid bottle. The name Voile de Fleur is no where on it.
I swear on my Behnaz lipstick that I spotted ads in magazines with a purple bottle and black bottles with the name printed on the front.
Was I dreaming?

Mr Doonan interviews the founder of DL& Co candles. He is a goth kid that has held on to the lifestyle and created some lovely candles. My favorite part of the interview is when he revealed that one of his clients flew him by helicopter to her newly bought mansion. She commissioned him to create "whatever."
He created fragranced wallpaper.
Can you imagine?
That is so lavish and kooky.
I wonder who the client was....any guesses?

Natura Bisse Diamond Magnetic: This is a lux treatment that incorporates magnets and gem therapy with real diamond dust to create perfect balance and synergy within.
I like bling where I can see it...on my neck, wrists or fingers.
Chantecaille has launched a cream called Nano Gold Energizing Cream. It is pure 24 karat gold wrapped around silk.
What happened to the gimmick ingredients like rare 1000 year mud from far away lands and ash from active volcanoes?
Those were the kooky ingredients that I could get behind.

Annick Goutal's Gommage Splendide Corps is still heaven in a jar. It's main ingredient is pulverized rose thorns.

I missed the counters featuring Stella McCartney and Nude skincare. I am curious about both.
Mr Doonan interviews the founder of Nude Skincare Bryan Meehan.
My favorite question posed to Mr Meehan: Why not laze around Notting Hill eating lotuses?
That Simon is so cheeky!

MAC's Studio Mist Foundation in Dark

My co-worker Sandy is currently smitten with this foundation from MAC.
It provides surprising coverage with a light texture.
It sets within 30 seconds and is buildable.
I was so blown away with the results that I plan to visit my local counter to find my match.
For reference, Sandy is NC 45.
It is priced at $28.50 and is available at your local MAC counters.

A Blogdorf Recap of November Lucky's

Page 44
The covergirl for this month is the lovely Keri Russell from one of my favorite television shows, Felicity. She wore all Covergirl products(of course!).
The listed products are:
Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers in Berry Splash
Tru Blend Liquid Makeup Foundation in Ivory
Eye Enhancers Four Kit in Sheerly Nudes(GENIUS product)
Line Exact Liquid Liner in very Black
Cheekers Blush in Natural Twinkle(This looks gorgeous on her cheeks!)

On page 134 Keri Russell discusses her smitten status with Kiehls Coriander line(Blech!), Agent Provocateur lingerie(Me too!) and Kathleen Lewis Rose dream cream from beautyexclusive.com
Page 62
There is just something about that Rozae Nichols Chiffon neck dress! I love how it looks like fireworks instead of flowers.

Page 98
A.P.C tops and the cloche hats. My friends Twizler, Stanzi and Hirondelle tried on some lovely cloche hats at Bergdorf Goodman during my last visit. It made me wish that I could carry off a hat.

Page 161 is a great feature called the First Annual Shopping Awards. Readers voted on the best shopping experiences in the country. Most choices I did not agree with. I think Barney's beauty floor kicks any Macys store's ass.
Sephora does win hands down as top beauty store chain but Space NK will give them a run for their money one day. I love Space NK's brands and sales associates. They actually have been trained to know about all the products in the store. It seems that Sephora only trains their staff to manage the cash register.

Best beauty website was Sephora. Lucky also listed Beautyhabit(always a wonderful experience!), Apothia, Luckyscent(fabulous, niche fragrances),and Ulta(I wish we had one in Ohio).
I would add Aedes. They have a stunning array of fragrances and beauty products. The Aedes staff is fabulous and delivery is supersonic fast.

Page 173 Blackberry Lips
Lancome's Color fever in PS Kiss: It is by far the best of the lot. Gorgeous in every way.
Revlon's Renewist Lipcolor in Berry Fulfilling
Prescriptives Colorscope Lipcolor in Purple Prose(an inky amethyst)
Rimmel Underground Light Beam After Darl Lipgloss (a wash of wine)
Benefit Her Glossiness Lip Gloss in Who Does Your Work?
Estee Lauder Tender Lip balm in Tender Berry
Maybelline New York Superstay Gloss in Blackberry glaze

Page 176
I think I need to try Givenchy's Mister Light Concealer. Four Lucky editors can not be wrong! Plus I can not wait until January 2009 for the La Mer concealer to come out. I need a holy grail now!

Page 187 Estee Lauder's Mocha Cup Eye Shadow is fabulous. It is a useful taupe shade that has just a pinch of gold pearl.

Page 188 Fragrances from Bond No9(Saks for Her, A great gardenia scent!) and I Profumi Di Firenze's Mirra.

Page 193 Beauty Guru, Jean Godfrey-June has fallen in love with Nude Cleansing Oil. I have been using Laura Mercier Cleansing's Oil and Water with fabulous results. My skin has never felt or looked better in my life. The oil has actually cleared my skin of pesky bumps(forehead) and occasional dry patches due to product testing. I am curious about her holy grail oil due to the scent. It would be heaven to sniff jasmine while washing my face at night.

Page 217 Art deco jewelry. I would have loved for them to feature some of the great pieces at Forever 21. They are part Marni inspired with some 20's influence.

Page 238 All about Coats!
So here is what I am lemming:
A violet colored coat. But I want the one at J Crew instead!
The Warm Pumpkin Breakfast at Tiffany's coat from See by Chloe. It is $685 and out of my price range.

Page 262 The Apple IPhone. Betsey and I played with Seth's(from Cool Hunting) IPhone in Paris. It was the greatest techie gadget ever!

Page 272 I love the Satin sea coat and blue tunic from Hamden Clothing.
What were your favorite moments in November's Lucky issue?

From Yahoo News:

When Renee Zellweger arrived red-faced at the premiere of her new film 'Bee Movie', she left her fans wondering that the petite actress might be overdoing her beauty treatments.
The 38-year old star appeared with ruddy raw cheeks and forehead at the event.
Zellweger is known to follow harsh beauty routines which includes-'facial sandblasting', before she makes a red-carpet appearance, reports the Daily Mail.
Before every premiere, the 'Jerry Maguire' star undergoes a three-hour process of 'sandblasting', which is designed to rid her skin of blemishes and keep her looking young and fresh.
The treatment, which costs 145 pounds, includes applying of special oxygen and milk facemask dubbed a 'pre-extraction oxygen wrap', and the face is covered in two layers of cling film.
When it is removed an oxygen spray containing vitamins is sprayed on the face and neck. It purports to kill surface bacteria to help keep skin clear and blemish-free.
Then comes the hour-long "sandblasting", in which aluminium oxide crystals are sprayed on to the face to reduce age spots and sun damage, and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
However, beauty therapists have warned that the process could leave the skin red and traumatised for up to a day later.
It is said that Zellweger loves the dramatic effects that the "sandblast" facial provides.

Has anyone ever done this treatment before? Let us know in the comments.

The spring show for the Costume Institute will be: “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.”

Seriously.

From Poiret to George Clooney's batman costume.

I am going to guess that this might have something to do with the success of the television show Heroes or maybe they just want massive crowds at the exhibit. What kid does not want to see Spiderman's costume?
The show will feature about 70 ensembles (from movie costumes to couture designs) and is scheduled to run from May 7 through September 1.

What costumes do you want to see?
I vote for the Mighty Isis!
I am a child of the 70's, so I loved Isis and Wonder Woman.

Swoonworthy Primer: Velvet Veil by Face Time

I am a firm believer in the power of primer products. Primers can change how makeup stays on your skin. Before primers, my makeup would not stay survive a full work day. It would slowly disappear bit by bit until there were just threads of foundation and powder. I hated the hassle of reapplying or constantly whipping out a mirror for touch ups. I wanted my makeup to last at least 8 hours with just an occasional whack of a powder puff.

Smashbox Primer was originally my savior along with primers from countless brands. I thought I was satisfied until I met Velvet Veil.
Velvet Veil is a silicon based primer with added jojoba. This ingredient makes the Velvet Veil formula extra velvety in comparison to its competition.
Besides feeling fabulous, this primer performs better than other silicon based primers.

I wore Velvet Veil with my usual foundation of choice, La Mer. I set it with Caron Madame powder and wore a mixture of Chanel and Nars blushes. My makeup not only survived a rough work day but it survived intact and fresh all night.
I went to bed early on Friday with a fever and chills.
I was miserable so there was no energy or time to wash my face.
I was aware of the consequences but I did not care.

I woke up in the morning and remembered that my makeup was still on.
As a beauty blogger, this is a crime that should not be repeated in public let alone on the blog.
However, I have to post about the amazing results.
My makeup had no budged.
It did not fade, smear, or disappear.
It was still all there in its glory.

I could have literally went out with the face that greeted me in the mirror. My foundation and blush looked freshly applied. My Caron powder still shimmered brightly.
I blinked a few times and then went over to my makeup drawer and pitched my Smashbox primer tube.

I gush often but consider this review one of my most passionate raves.
I am smitten and will never be without this adorable tube.

It is priced at $22 and is currently available at the website.

Visit Facetime at http://www.facetimecosmetics.com/home.aspx
Disclosure: A press sample of this product was provided by Face Time. I also purchased a back up bottle.

MAC Smoke Signals Collection
(A better late than never review)

"The whole feeling of Smoke Signals is really about the seductive nature of makeup. This collection brings to mind the feeling of sitting in club, listening to great music, with smoke all around you and the intrique and glamour that it evokes". There is definitely a smoky eye going on that is classic, paired with a wonderful kind of fleshy mouth." (James Gager, Senior Vice President Creative Director)

Powder Blush
Ablaze: This is more matte-like than a frost. It is described as a "dirty coral" but it a bright rose. It is highly pigmented and gives a lovely flush to the cheek.
Emote: A matte grey brown that is cool toned. This is a taupe that does not turn orange or dirty. It goes on sheer but is buildable.

Smoke Signals Palettes
Eye Shadow x4

Gentle Fume Eyes:4
Rondelle(a silverish white),Waft(deep blue grey), Gentle Fume(cool midtone grey w/silver sparkle) and Carbon (intense matte black).

Smoking Eyes:4
Next to Nothing(a creamy white with pink flashes), Satin Taupe(taupe brown with silverish bronze shimmer),Showstopper(gray brown) and Smoking(Black with gold shimmer).
I am beyond smitten with these palettes. I think these are essential to any makeup collection.

Lipstick:
Brew: A creamy beige/nude with just a touch of gold
Barely Lit: The perfect pinkie nude! MAC describes it as a "pink sand with gold pearl".
Sparks Can Fly: A creamy Rose that glows. A lipstick version of Fresh's Satine gloss.
Mellow Flame: Bronzed pink with red pearl lustre. Perfect for warm tones.
Burnin: A black cherry color.

Lipglass:
Bizaarish: A black cherry with pearl. Very very very dark.
Bare Truth: A warm caramel
Soft and Slow: Soft rose with just a hint of gold pearl
Illict: Creamy neutral pink

Nail Lacquer:
Wildfire: Black with Red Pearl. GORGEOUS!
Nocturnelle: Rich black(cream)

Pigments:
Silver Fog: Metallic dirty silver
Smoke Signal: Rusty deep maroon shade that is bordline eggplant-like.
Dark Soul: Charcoal black smoked with gold. A MAC classic!

Kohl Power:
Orpheus: Intense black with gold pearl
Raven: Intense Black with red pearl

Bergdorf Goodman Windows

All of her lovers all talk of her notes
And the flowers that they never sent
And wasn't she easy
Isn't she pretty in pink
The one who insists he was first in the line
Is the last to remember her name
He's walking around in this dress that she wore
She is gone but the joke's the same

Maybelline Define-A-Lash Lengthening Mascara

I splurged on this tube based on its Granny Smith apple color. It promised a fuller and longer lash fringe, so I ignored the little voice in my head that kept repeating that I had enough mascara tubes to fill a football field at home.

This mascara utilizes the revolutionary rubber wand. It has all the powers of Mr Fantastic. It can be bent in half and twisted in all kind of ways. The Chanel Inimitable and the Max Factor Volume Couture wands can not boast this feat. The Define-A-Lash wand is a "smidge" longer with similar bristles. The bristles do not extend to the top of the wand like Chanel or Max Faxtor.

The mascara formula does not smudge or clump. It is washable and does not leave a mess on the face. It separates the lashes very well and gives definition. The pigment is weak and the lengthening action is nothing to write home about.

So it was a bust.

Prescriptives The Illuminator All Over Face Color

This is a multi-functional pressed powder that highlights, contours and illuminates the face and cheeks with an incandescent glow. Three base shades overlaid with gold shimmer make up this holiday compact. I was impressed with the silk-like texture and subtle shimmer power. Some women shy away from shimmer products because they do not want to look like they are covered in glitter.
This product has very fine shimmer beads that do not overpower the wearer.
It gives just a hint of a spark.
It is a limited edition product and is currently available at your local Prescriptives counter for $35.
