2009...It Is What It Is

2009 was a rough year.
I am not sorry to see it go.
A few eagle-eyed friends and readers noticed that my heart was not into the blog this year. I was in a pretty dark and twisted place.
I have wasted enough time on fretting, pining and being sad. I have been sinking for a whole year.

I hope 2010 brings closure, peace and some lovely moments. I do not want to waste any more time on the silly...unless it gives me a great laugh. I want to get healthy and focused. The only personal wishes I have are as follows:

1. I hope to travel more in 2010. I would love to take that trip to Japan, return to Paris, London and New York City. I need to be in NYC more.
2. I want to spend more time with friends. I might want to make some new ones. It has been a while since I wanted to do the later.
3. I am going to wish that Lancome brings back the Erika F eye shadow to the US. For the love of all things holy...Pretty please.
4. I wish for some Jill Stuart, Japanese skincare, and some Addiction products.
5. I will get a Chanel handbag by January 1, 2011. This will be the prezzie to usher in my dreaded next bday. It is a big and painful one. They say that a girl who turns "something-something" needs a Chanel purse. I am going to listen to those nameless smart people.
6. 2010 will be all about technology. I will get a new computer, a lap top, a scanner and a cool phone. Unite and discuss the merits of an iphone or the droid in the comments.
7. I will learn how to successfully apply false eyelashes.
8. I wish to be brave.
9. If I am to be a spinster...I wish for a glamorous life. It is only fair.
10. I wish to be a better blogger. I wish for a revamped look, constant inspiration and material and a steady, focused attitude.
11. I would like to have a pet octopus. (That is for Tbone!)

Happy New Years!
I am off to watch Nick and Nora Charles!
You know the drill...start wishing in the comments.

If you think 2010 is going to be "your year",

it isn't.
You've already jinxed it somehow.
(quote from the sulk's twitter)

This tweet cracked me up.
Most of this person tweets generally do.

I wanted to wish my readers a very wonderful New Year!
Thanks for visiting the blog in 2009 and making it a part of your daily reading! I am looking forward to the 2010 beauty launches and discoveries.

Tonight I will post my annual wishes for the upcoming year. It has become a blog tradition and oddly...most of the wishes have been granted. This blog's plea for a Sephora for Grayburn was answered.
I think we can all take credit for that.

I will also do the Best of Beauty in 2009 list next week.
It is late this year due to a death in my family.
2009 has been rough.
It can kick rocks.
Let's hope that 2010 is peaceful, drama-free and full of lovely moments.

Don't Call It A Comeback: MAC Feline Kohl Power Eye Pencil

Do not lollygag on picking up a MAC Feline Kohl Power Eye Pencil. It returns in the Love Lace collection that is currently at MAC counters.

Now correct me if I am wrong (I am looking at you hardcore MAC addicts), but this pencil has sold out at least twice before.
So dear readers...you know the drill.
Grab and hoard!

I consider this third coming of Feline...a gift from baby Jesus. It retails for $14.50.

Disclosure: I bought two boxes of Feline because I am smitten and scared. The Feline nub of a pencil was a press sample. I was this close...to taking a switch blade to sharpen it. I could not throw it away.

Curse of the Jade Scorpion: Part 2

My nail tech requested that I bring in my bottles of Chanel Jade and MAC Peppermint Patty to the salon. She wanted to see how they compared to Essie's Mint Candy Apple green.

She sold 6 bottles within one week and can not keep it in stock. One client bought 3 bottles to use for her pedicures. That is a mixture of great smitten status and fear. She must have been burned by the limited edition trend.

I did not get the love until we swatched it on a piece of tape. It is a mint green with a slight blue cast. It is a very cold shade and far from the jadite shades of Chanel and MAC.

Essie's Mint Candy Apple polish is currently being sold at http://www.essieshop.com/
It retails for $8.

Visions of Sugar Plums

Lancome Ink Artliner in Plum Tease

Plum Tease artliner is a murky violet shade. It is not exactly smoky but it is not a fresh plum picked from the tree. There is a little mystery there. I was impressed with the pigment power. The formula is whipped smooth and glides on the eye like a waltz. I found it to be smoother and creamier than Indigo Charm.

It contains no shimmer, metal sheen or spark. It looks smashing with grey or taupe eye shadows.

It retails for $23.50 and can be found at your local Lancome counter or online at http://www.lancome-usa.com/makeup/eye-pencils-and-liners/ink-artliner.htm?varcode=3605975038583

She's A Rainbow

Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Color Bold Volume Lifting Mascara

One thing I liked to do during the holidays is go "balls to the walls" with my eye makeup. I unleash my shimmer demon and experiment with bold color. This year I was able to experiment with different shades of mascara. This is a great way to add just a sprinkle or dash of color to the eye. I was initially afraid that it would look juvenile or too intense for non- runway life. Sumptuous Color coats the lashes with bold color without looking cartoonish. My lashes were still black but with a delightful cast of royal blue to a reddish plum.

Most mascaras in this genre are centered on the pigment punch and neglect doing anything else. They usually weigh down the lashes and are a mess. Sumptuous Color does a great job with separation, lift and length. It coats the lashes with an even does of color. The color cast was evident from the root to the tip. It might not be the best formula for curl or volume. But it did not weigh down my lashes even with multiple coats. It also avoided the pitfalls of the crunch factor. The lashes had a nice gloss to them.

The Emerald shade was the surprise hit of the testing. It was a clover green that was flirtatious, fun and so damn pretty. I did have hard time coordinating it with my eye shadows. It fared better with a nude eye.

Amethyst was a bright blue violet. There was no doubts on how pretty it was going to be. You only have to look at it to appreciate it's charms. I found it too be more fetching with a grey or brown eye palette rather than plum.

Amber was a tortoiseshell shade that appeared very warm and sable-like on my black lashes. It was fairly ho-hum on me. I am guessing that this will look amazing on fair or red lashed citizens.

I have tried many blue mascaras over the course of my life. Most weighed down my lashes with an electric blue hot mess. Sapphire was just a subtle cast of cobalt. I wore it only with brown shadows.

Last but not least...this gem is called Garnet. This is one serious gorgeous shade. It is a reddish wine color. It is flipping fantastic on dark lashes. The claret cast is stunning with every damn eye shadow shade from MAC's Coco Pigment to Bobbi Brown's Rockstar. This is the one to lose your mind over. However, as with almost all red based pigment products, you might experience some eye irritations. I suffered with eye discomfort the next day. It was worth it...because it is damn good.

The colors are deep yet subtle on the lashes. They provide a quick way to be festive and fun for the holidays.

I also tried Bare Escentuals i.d Beautifully Luminous Lashes in Diamond and Black Diamond. I found these difficult. When I first saw these...I lost my mind. They look like MAC dazzleglasses. You expect serious shimmer payoff. For the life of me, I could not get these mascaras to glimmer or show up on my dark lashes. I found that the shimmer fire was only evident when I actually closed my eyes. It looked lovely then. Like sparkling snow. With my eyes open and looking at the world....just a few glitter sparks here and there. The formula was light and it did not weigh down or crunch my lashes. I also had no issues with fly away glitter.

Estee Lauder's Sumptous Color mascara is available at your local Lauder counter. They retail for $19.50 are limited edition.

Bare Escentuals i.d Beautifully Luminous Lashes might be more difficult to locate. Diamond is sold out at various locations online. Black Diamond is from last year. It was wildly popular and flew off the shelves. They retail for $15.

Back to The Fuchsia

MAC Cosmetics Fuchsia Fix Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15

I have spent the day organizing my lippie stash. It is fairly large and requires periodic weeding and sorting. Pink lippies are still the most represented shade in my collection. I rediscovered a gem from the MAC DSQUARED2 Collection. It is a fuchsia lip tint. Coverage can range from a sheer wash of strawberry to a lovely deep rich pink. The texture is La Mer worthy. It feels like a dollop of heaven. It contains Almond Oil, Shea Butter, Avocado Extract, Wheat Germ Oil, vitamins A and E.

It retails for $14.50 and can still be found online @

Perfume Pangs

“Wait! Come here.” She marched me to a Histoire de Parfums display that looked like a row of overturned martini glasses, picked one up and inhaled it like the next fix in her continuing ether jag. She sighed, handing the glass to me.
“You haven’t seen him yet, but you know this man.”

I did a nose-drag. It was emotion-seizing: the complex, expensive scent of a civilized man. A well-shaved European — wet pine, fire, cold Sauternes. I could almost taste the clean leather and tweed. It hit with a resonant pang, right below the belt into unfair, instant, knuckle-biting yearning.

We looked at each other in a mutual reverie.

“Unngh.” I moaned.
“Right?”
The fragrance — aromatique hespéridé — was created by the ridiculously handsome Gérald Ghislain, in honor of Jules Verne. The Hesperides were Greek nymphs of the evening, charged with protecting Hera’s orchard of immortality-granting golden apples of joy.

Damn. I think we all need to go smell this!

Some Weekend Holiday Cheer

There is some great news for fans of Prescriptives beloved Custom Blend foundations and powders.
While the brand will exit counters at the end of January, you'll still be able to order your Custom Blend foundation and powder online (while supplies last!) via the Prescriptives Custom Blend Replenishment program.

To take advantage, visit your local Prescriptives Custom Blend counter in the U.S. now and ask for your new Custom Blend recipe form. Then register your recipe online at https://www.prescriptives.com/customblend and you'll be notified by email when it is available to purchase in January 2010.

Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss

Estee Lauder's Ultimate Red Holiday 2009 Lip Glosses

Opulent Shimmer Gloss in Gold is a shimmery, glittery, glimmery gold. The pigment is on the sheer side. The shimmer beads are a mixture of gold and opal.

Opulent Shimmer Gloss in Cranberry is a muted orange red. There is no pink cast. The shimmer is golden.

These glosses are heavily scented with fig. The scent is pretty powerful and is strong straight from the tube. The texture is smooth like silicon yet light. No grit from the shimmer.

These lip glosses are sold out online. You might find some stragglers at your local Estee Lauder counter. They retail for $18.
